The first chapter of my novel-in-progress, A Person of Quality, has made the shortlist for the Historical Novel Society's First Chapters competition. Winners will be announced at the 2026 Conference, held this year in Maynooth Ireland. While I don't think I'll be able to make it across the pond this summer, I've been to HNS conferences in the past, and they are great fun--more "Con" than academic conference--with costumes and events that make it like a time-travelers convention. I'd encourage everyone in the area who might be interested in historical fiction to attend.
